TLDR: When situations require time to work out, it is best not to think or worry about them until they are played out. Instead, worry about the things within your control whose time has come.

There are many things within our lives which require time and space to work themselves out. We most often see this in situations that have many external variables. The more external emotions in the situation → the more external variables → more possible outcomes. These external variables & emotions are aspects of the situations which are outside your control.

Most situations with large amounts of external variables are surrounding relationships with others. These are also the most likely to tug on internal emotions and create stress and anxiety.

In these situations with external variables & emotions, eventually, enough of the variables are played out and you arrive at a point where situations are more plain and easier to make decisions. You will more easily be able to remove emotions from the equation and work out what you should do from a logic standpoint.

So what do you do during the lull of the situation before the this time comes? Focus on the things you can control and be indifferent to the things you cannot.

By being indifferent this does not mean sour or impatient. Rather, let things play out as the they will, and in the meantime remain content and undisturbed on these things. If you can fill this undisturbed time with gratitude and enjoyment in other areas of your life, you are much more likely to live a joyful life.

What questions help you distinguish and separate these situations? I have created a flow chart below:

By using this technique, you can move focus from things you cannot control, to those you can control. You can better understand which situations require time, and remain indifferent until that time has passed.
